I know most of us spent the holiday weekend with family and friends, watched fireworks, and maybe barbecued, but can you imagine what it must have felt like to be one of those summoned to hear the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence? We all want freedom! We see what Ukraine is going through, we see what most Russians want but do not dare speak of, we see the Palestinians … all of us are united in wanting freedom. Freedom is something that many of us have replaced with independence to the extreme. We isolate, we hide ourselves to a large degree, and some people suffer in silence. It is those people that I want to talk with tonight to help them feel a little less internal pain and remind them of the beautiful person full of light and energy that’s laid dormant for too long.

On this day in history, July 8th, 1776, the Liberty Bell rang out from the tower of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, summoning citizens to the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. This historic event marked a significant moment of courage, resilience, and the unyielding human spirit. As we reflect on this pivotal moment in history, we can draw profound lessons on mental health and personal resilience that are just as relevant today.
